How it works

SeparationAt least 5 NM apart or 1,000 ft vertically. Lose it and both aircraft turn red.
Fixed routesEvery aircraft follows its own route along the airways and stays on it unless you vector it.
Plan aheadSee where routes cross and which aircraft get there at the same time and level. Solve it early with a level or speed change.
Vectors only when you mustA heading takes the aircraft off its route. It costs points, and you must send it back afterwards.
Hand overOverflights leave at their exit point and exit level. Arrivals go down to FL100 at 250 kt.

Three levels of traffic

Easy

Up to 6 aircraft at once. The radar marks where two aircraft will meet, so you learn to see it coming.

8 min

Normal

Up to 9 aircraft at once. You spot the conflicts yourself.

10 min

Hard

Up to 12 aircraft at once. You spot the conflicts yourself.

How you are scored

Safety counts most, but planning, communication and the side tasks all add up.

  • Safety: every loss of separation costs points.
  • Traffic flow: aircraft leave at the right point and level, departures get away on time.
  • Planning: vectors cost points, more if there was no conflict in sight.
  • Communication: accept aircraft in time, catch wrong readbacks, answer requests.
  • Memory, monitoring and mental arithmetic: the side tasks.

Is the ATC simulator free?

Yes. It runs in your browser, with no download and no account.

Do I need to know air traffic control?

No. The instructions explain everything you need, from reading a data label to handing over an aircraft.

Is this the FEAST II radar test?

No. It is our own simulation in the same spirit: many aircraft, many tasks and little time. It is not a copy of any real selection test.

Does it work on a phone?

It works best on a computer with a mouse and keyboard. On small screens the radar gets cramped.
